Independent Mercenary Directorate
Within the hierarchy of the Umbrella Special Forces Unit (USFU), Custodes Umbrae ("Guardians of the Shadows") functioned as a compartmentalized black-budget division. While frontline units such as the U.B.C.S. handled visible tactical threats and standard USFU elements secured proprietary biological assets, Custodes Umbrae operated off the grid—tasked with high-value retrieval, extreme counter-containment, and deep-cover security for executive leadership.
When Umbrella Corporation was declared bankrupt following international court injunctions and government crackdowns, standard command structures fractured. Unlike conventional assets that were seized or disbanded, Custodes Umbrae leveraged classified operational caches, independent logistical networks, and hardened field veterans to remain fully intact underground.
Following the complete fallout of Umbrella, the leadership of Custodes Umbrae reorganized the division into an elite, private military company (PMC). Capitalizing on decades of specialized combat training, biohazard protocol expertise, and tactical warfare capabilities, the division entered the global market as an independent contractor.
Operating discreetly across volatile combat zones and sensitive global infrastructure, Custodes Umbrae maintains active contracts with government entities, sovereign intelligence organizations, and private corporate conglomerates. Operating strictly under a pragmatist doctrine: the division deploys for the highest bidder, guaranteeing total objective fulfillment regardless of threat severity or bio-hazardous environments.
